Know your financial situation ahead of time:

Knowing your financial situation ahead of time is the first rule and will save some stress during this emotional time. During the final months, we took several steps to put as many accounts into my name as possible and to cancel accounts like his credit cards and subscriptions.
Then after his funeral and time to reflect on my new life, it was time to finish the estate.

Since I knew the details of the finances, I did not lose what belonged to me.
As I sat down with the loan person in the bank, with every document stated on the phone to bring with me so that I could pay off the home, he still attempted first to tell me I needed to buy my spouses’ loan out.

This approach was wrong because my name appears on loan also. So I did not need to buy out a loan that I was already on. Then he suggested that I would be better off refinancing the loan. After I threatened to pull all my business from the bank, then he drew up the correct forms to finish my business that day.

A lesson to walk away with is to know your financial situation and keep your files updated.

Have a plan of action:

Having a plan of action is the second rule of action. An example of a plan of action might be knowing which TV services you do not use or what foods you want to eat now. Maybe you’re a soup and salad person but always had to prepare big meals. Those are examples of financial action plans.
Maybe you like attending church activities, sewing, reading, activities, or even travel. Then having a plan of action here will help you know what you will be able to do every day.

The lesson to discover here is to take your time to begin a new life. Since you know your financial situation, planning will get easier. Practicing Frugal Widow ways will help you and help you help others in the future.

Have a plan B:

Every day for the first year, have a plan B.
You will soon realize you are a different person each morning. That is where having a plan B comes into play. When you wake up energized and ready to face the day, it’s fantastic! When you wake up foggy-minded and want to remain inside, that is plan B.

Plan B could be like this:

  • Reschedule that appointment and grab a cup of tea and a good book.
  • Do one thing for the estate, then call a friend for lunch.
  • Even though you are staying inside, do some activity each hour. More about this is next section.

The lesson to discover here is that the world changes after you say goodbye and for at least the first year you can not expect yourself to be as perfect as you were before but you will find yourself again.

Research, Research, Research:

Research, Research, Research will save you time and money. The research will inform you of the laws and methods of your state. Researching can be done in several ways these days.

Research

The lesson to discover here is that sometimes what people tell you is not the complete truth and Researching the answers will lead you to the proper conclusion.

Meal plans a few days a week:
